Celebrating 240 Years and Counting!

Posted by admin on 10th Jun 2015

The United States Army will celebrate its 240th birthday this Sunday, June 14th, having been created as a force to fight for the colonies’ freedoms. In honor of their birthday, here are some lesser known facts about the US Army.

1. 24 out of the 44 Presidents have served in the Army during war time (an additional six served during a time of peace.)

2. The number of people currently serving in the US Army would equal the populations of Wyoming and Vermont combined.

3. Although they were the first branch of the Armed Forces, they were the last one to pick a song. They didn’t have an official song until 1956.

4. The Air Force was part of the Army until 1946, when they finally broke off to become their own branch.

5. The U.S. Army wasn’t only protection oriented. They were also in charge of exploring and mapping America. Landmarks such as Pike's Peak and the Grand Canyon were first explored by the Army.

Happy birthday, US Army, and thank you for your continual service in fighting for our country’s freedom.
