We hold these truths to be self-evident, that Independence Day is the perfect day to celebrate and remember many wonderful things in our lives. Perhaps it is an occasion to bring together family, catch up on some errands or simply recharge. I think we can all agree that July 4th is the perfect day to fly a new flag, set off some fireworks, and express our patriotism. Regardless of how we spend Sunday, we should all reflect on our past, present, and future with gratitude.
Hundreds of years ago, on July 4th, 1776, our nation’s founding fathers decided to stake their hopes on the future in the name of freedom and sovereignty. Denouncing the evils of the past, they saw a future brimming with opportunity and fairness, should they have the courage to attempt to create it.
In our present, we are all at the intersection of the past and the future. Our lives are affected by the entire timeline of our Great Nation’s history. Our perspective on we came from and where we are going allows us to make today the beginning of the rest of our lives.
As we honor another Independence day, let us all hope for a bright future just as our founding fathers did on that monumental July 4th at the beginning of our nation’s history.
A celebration of who we are as a nation is necessary to understand why we should be thankful and hopeful. Moreover, a celebration is an acknowledgment of our triumphs and our hardships conquered. July 4th is the opportunity to celebrate the entire timeline of our nation.
As we celebrate this day we cannot forget those out there fighting for this country. Happy Fourth of July!
