SPACE FORCE HISTORY LESSON

The United States Space Force is its own branch of the Armed Forces and is organized under the Department of the Air Force. This is similar to the way the Marine Corps is organized under the Department of the Navy. The Space Force is tasked with missions and operations in the rapidly evolving space domain.

The U.S. Space Force was first established on December 20, 2019, when the National Defense Authorization Act was signed into law. The creation of the USSF was the first new branch of the US Armed Forces in 73 years. This was the result of widespread recognition that Space was a national security imperative.
