Description

Our South Dakota state flag is crafted from high-quality, quick-drying nylon, making it suitable for outdoor flying. The lightweight nature of the nylon fabric means that the flag will fly majestically, even in gentle breezes. The flag's design, featuring South Dakota's official seal and colors, is digitally printed, providing UV resistance and helping prevent fading even under direct sunlight.

Each of our South Dakota flags comes ready to fly with a sturdy canvas header and brass grommets. These ensure easy attachment to any outdoor flagpole, such as our bestselling 6’ tangle-free house-mounted flagpole. Refer to our table of flagpole heights and recommended flag size matches to determine which size flag is right for you.

SD Flag Features:

  • Manufactured in the USA with exceptional craftsmanship and quality
  • Official 1992 design with the state seal
  • 100% durable nylon
  • Strong canvas header for support*
  • Brass grommets for secure attachment*

*Flags 8' x 12' and larger use a heavy-duty rope and galvanized thimbles for the added strength needed for larger flags. Flags smaller than that size are equipped with a canvas header and grommets.

Interested in an indoor display? We also offer the South Dakota state flag with gold fringe and a pole sleeve, ideal for formal settings.

South Dakota Flag History

South Dakota’s current state flag is based on the one used from 1909 to 1963, with a yellow sun in the center of the flag surrounded by the text “South Dakota / The Sunshine State.” In 1963, the flag was modified to add the state seal inside of the sun. The modern flag only has a slight change: In 1992, the state nickname on the flag was updated to “The Mount Rushmore State.”
