HISTORY OF THE GERMAN FLAG

The black, red and gold tricolor flag of Germany seen today was established in 1990 and celebrates the unity and democracy of East and West Germany. Until the FIFA World Cup 2006 took place in Germany, flag-flying wasn’t popular because of the widespread use of flags by the National Socialist German Workers' Party. A long-winded fear was close to diminished by the end of the tournament, though people were hesitant to fly the flag after the event ended. When the 2014 World Cup winners brought the trophy home to their country, the flag-flying became more common in everyday life, not just sporting events.
