VE "Victory in Europe" Day marks the formal acceptance by the Allied Forces of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender. The State of Liberty was gifted to the American people on October 28, 1886, for creating a viable democracy. It was given to the United States from the French people as a symbol of liberty and perseverance after the Union winning the American Civil War.
