Description

This flag of Jamaica is ideal for any occasion, whether celebrating Jamaican Independence Day, displaying national pride, or hosting cultural events.

Each Jamaica flag is manufactured in the United States of America from 100% nylon fabric for a sturdy and durable display. Nylon is a lightweight material that allows it to fly regally in the breeze and dry quickly after becoming wet. The iconic design is digitally printed with UV-resistant inks for bold, vibrant colors that resist fading due to sun damage.

The Jamaican flag comes equipped with a canvas heading and brass grommets for easy attachment to an outdoor flagpole. The 3’ by 5’ flag is our most popular option and a great choice for flying on our 6’ tangle-free house-mounted flagpole.

Jamaican Flag Colors, Meaning & History

The Jamaican national flag was adopted on August 6, 1962, to celebrate Jamaican Independence Day. The government ran a competition to develop flag designs, and the Jamaican House of Representatives made the final decision. Initially, the design had horizontal stripes, but since it was too similar to the flag of Tanganyika, this was changed to the diagonal cross, or ‘saltire,’ we know today.

The colors of the Jamaican flag have changed in meaning over time. At first, green represented the land, gold stood for the sun, and black symbolized hardships. In 1996, the Committee to Examine National Symbols and National Observances recommended that the meanings be changed: Green now depicts vegetation and hope, gold is for wealth and sunshine, and black celebrates the strength and creativity of the Jamaican people.
