Jordan Flag Meaning & History
The Jordanian flag was officially adopted on April 16, 1928. Its design is based on the flag used to symbolize the Arab Revolt, an uprising against the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The main difference between the two flags is the order of the colored stripes and the addition of a white star.
Each color on Jordan’s flag represents a different ruling dynasty: White is for the Umayyads, green is for the Fatimid dynasty, black is for the Abbasids, and red is for the Hashemites, the current royal family of Jordan. The seven-pointed star symbolizes the seven verses of the Al-Fatiha and the seven hills on which the capital city of Amman is built.
Jordan Flag vs Palestine Flag
The flags of Jordan and Palestine are almost entirely identical; however, the Jordan flag is recognizable by the addition of a white star in the red triangle. Furthermore, the triangle on the Palestinian flag is shorter.
