Description

Our flag of the US Virgin Islands is proudly manufactured in the United States from nylon. Nylon is a quick-drying fabric, which helps prevent mildew growth after rainy weather. The territory’s seal is digitally printed for accuracy and vibrant colors.

These flags feature a sturdy canvas header and brass grommets for simple attachment to any standard outdoor flagpole. We offer the USVI flag in sizes 12” x 18”, 2’ x 3’, 3’ x 5’, 4’ x 6’, 5’ x 8’, 6’ x 10’, and 8’ x 12’. If you aren’t sure which option is right for you, refer to our table of common pole heights and their matching flag size.

US Virgin Islands Flag Meaning & History

The design of the US Virgin Islands flag originated in 1921 when Governor Sumner Kittelle asked cartoonist Percival Wilson Sparks for ideas. Sparks drew up a variant of the US seal and transferred it to cotton. Spark’s wife, Grace, and her sister, Blanche, then embroidered this first flag. The flag was officially adopted on May 17, 1921.

The gold eagle represents the United States and holds a piece of laurel in its left talon, representing victory, and three arrows on the right. These three arrows represent the number of major islands that make up the territory: Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas.
