Antigua and Barbuda Flag Meaning & History
The flag of Antigua and Barbuda was formally recognized on February 27, 1967, in commemoration of self-government for the islands. This winning design by Sir Reginald Samuel was chosen out of a competition with over 600 submissions.
Each color has special significance: Black celebrates the African ancestry of the local population, blue symbolizes hope, and red conveys the spirit of the people. The rising sun represents the dawning of a new era, under which the stripes of blue and white depict the seas and coasts of the Caribbean islands.
