Canary Islands Flag Meaning & History
The design of the Canary Islands’ flag was first created in 1961 by Carmen, Arturo, and Jesus Sarmiento. However, it would not become officially recognized until August 16, 1982.
The white, blue, and yellow colors are inspired by previous flags used to represent the region, namely those of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Province of Las Palmas.
