Iran Flag Meaning & History
The modern tricolor flag of Iran originated in 1906 and had the same green, white, and red design but with a lion and sun symbol in the center. In 1980, the lion and sun were removed and replaced with a new national emblem. This emblem, consisting of a sword and four curves, is a stylized representation of the word Allah.
The color green symbolizes unity and the unification of several regions under Darius I, white is for peace, and red is for those who died fighting for Iran. Along the edges of the stripes on Iran’s flag, the Takbir is written 11 times.
