Nylon has quick-drying properties, which help prevent mildew buildup after rain and wet weather. The stripes and white circle are digitally printed for vivid, fade-resistant colors.

Laos Flag Meaning & History

The current flag of Laos was first designed and adopted in 1945 by scholar Maha Sila Viravong during Laos’ brief period of self-rule. However, this flag would be replaced with the previous monarchical flag that featured a three-headed elephant after French reintervention in 1946. The modern flag was reinstated in 1975 after the fall of the royal government.

The central blue stripe represents the Mekong River, the third-longest river in Asia and an important part of Laos’ industry. The red stripes symbolize the blood shed by those who fought for freedom on both sides of the river. The white circle in the center stands for unity and the full moon.
