Morocco Flag Meaning & History
The Moroccan flag was adopted on November 17, 1915, when Sultan Yusef signed it into law. Red is a traditional Moroccan color connected to the ruling royal family, the ‘Alawids. Before 1915, the national flag was simply a red field. The added green star, or pentagram, symbolizes the five pillars of Islam.
