Nylon US Navy Flags
Our nylon American Navy flags are ideal for most general-purpose use thanks to their durable, lightweight design. Nylon’s lightness allows it to fly easily in mild winds and dry quickly following rain. We offer the nylon option in sizes 12” x 18”, 2’ x 3’, 3’ x 5’, 4’ x 6’, 5’ x 8’, and 6’ x 10’. The 3’ by 5’ nylon flag of the Navy is our bestselling option and an excellent fit for our popular 6’ tangle-free flagpole.
Polyester US Navy Flags
We recommend choosing the polyester version of the Navy flag for display on board a vessel, in coastal saltwater environments, or in harsher, windier climates. Polyester is heavier and tougher than nylon, making it more weather-resistant. However, due to their weight, polyester flags aren’t designed for use on house-mounted poles. The polyester Navy flag is available in the 3’ by 5’ size.

Navy Flag Meaning & History
The US Navy is the largest naval military force in the world. With 323,000 active personnel, 288 battleships, and countless other ships, carriers, cruisers, destroyers, submarines, and aircraft, the US Navy is engaged in operations in almost every major body of water worldwide. This worldwide presence makes the Navy an incredible fighting force!
The US Navy was first formed in 1775 to defend the American colonies against British attacks. After the Revolutionary War, the Navy was dissolved. Soon thereafter, the United States found itself in need of a military response to pirates, and nine years later, in 1798, the United States Navy was re-established.
The current official US Navy flag was authorized by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1959. The flag features a sailing vessel protected by the outstretched wings of a bald eagle. The emblem also includes a rope, an anchor, and the words “United States Navy” across a gold banner.
