Nepal Flag Meaning & History
The history of the Nepalese flag spans several centuries. The first recorded use of a red flag composed of two triangles was in the mid-19th century. However, this design used isosceles triangles instead, with a green outline and depicted human faces on the white crescent moon and sun.
In the 1930s, the two triangles were changed to have a right angle, and the green outline became blue. The current design was adopted on December 16, 1962, and removed the faces from the crescent and sun.
The red color represents bravery, while the blue border symbolizes peace and harmony. The white crescent moon is associated with the cold Himalayan mountains, while the sun stands for Nepal's warmer Terai lowlands.
