St. Kitts and Nevis Flag Meaning

The flag of St. Kitts and Nevis was adopted on September 19, 1983, the same day that it became an independent nation. The country had previously been part of Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla. It was chosen from a nationwide competition that received 258 entries and was won by student Edris Lewis.

The green triangle represents land and agriculture, while the red is for the struggle for independence and freedom. The black stripe symbolizes the African heritage of many residents, and the surrounding yellow stripes are for the sun. The two white stars symbolize the two islands that make up the country. The stars also represent liberty and hope.
