Description

Our West Virginia state flag allows you to show your love for the Mountain State with style.

These West Virginia flags are proudly made in the United States using high-quality, durable nylon fabric. Nylon’s lightness means the flag can fly even in gentle breezes, while its quick-drying nature helps prevent mildew growth. The design is digitally printed for UV and fade resistance, even when flown in direct sunlight.

West Virginia flags sized up to 6’ by 10’ come equipped with a sturdy canvas header and brass grommets, while sizes 8’ by 12’ and larger feature a rope and galvanized thimbles for added strength to support the flag’s weight. For assistance selecting the right size for your outdoor flagpole, please refer to our table of recommended flagpole height and flag size pairings.

West Virginia Flag Meaning & History

The first official West Virginia flag was adopted in 1905 when the state needed a banner to represent itself during the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. This flag had a white background, a blue border, and a drawing of rhododendron maximum flowers, or “big laurel,” in the center. On the reverse side of the flag was the state seal.

In 1907, the flag was updated to have the seal of West Virginia on the front and the laurel flowers on the reverse side.

The current West Virginia flag was adopted in 1929. It was decided that both sides should be combined, with the state seal surrounded by laurel branches. The reverse side was changed to be a mirrored version of the front.
