The Canadian flag design was the brainchild of Jacques Saint-Cyr of Quebec and George Stanley of Alberta. They wanted to bring together the pattern of the French flag, the colors of the English flag, and they added a maple leaf to represent Canada’s Native Americans. Canada’s flag colors of red and white were set in 1921 and the current flag design was adopted on February 15th, the inaugural National Flag Day of Canada.
