Iraq Flag Meaning & History
The red, white, and black tricolor design was first used in 1963 and had three green stars in the center of the white stripe. The central emblem was modified a few times, with the most current version established in 2008. This design features the Takbir, an Islamic prayer, in green.
The colors are inspired by a poem written by Safi al-Din al-Hilli. The red represents enemies' blood, white is for bright actions, black is for dark battlefields, and green symbolizes the land.
