Isle of Man Flag Meaning & History
The flag of the Isle of Man was officially adopted in 1932. However, the triskelion design used has a much longer history. The triskelion, or the three legs, has symbolized Sicily since the 7th century BCE. It is unknown precisely how the triskelion came to the Isle of Man, but it is suggested that it was introduced by the British royal family around the 13th century, as they had ties to Sicily.
The triskelion is used to represent movement, and the red background of the flag is based on the Isle of Man’s coat of arms.
