Description
Our Kiribati flags are manufactured in the United States from nylon, a durable and fray-resistant material. Nylon is also quick to dry, which helps prevent mildew growth after rain. The frigatebird and ocean design is digitally printed for bright, UV-resistant colors.
These flags have a robust canvas heading and brass grommets for secure attachment to any of our outdoor flagpoles. We offer the Kiribati flag in sizes 2’ x 3’, 3’ x 5’, 4’ x 6’, 5’ x 8’, and 6’ x 10’. Kiribati Flag Meaning & History
The islands of Kiribati gained independence from the British Empire in 1979 and held a competition to determine the design of the new national flag. The winning design was based on the region’s coat of arms, which had been used on the previous British Blue Ensign representing the territory.
The gold frigatebird at the top of the flag symbolizes power, freedom, and cultural heritage. Underneath is a rising sun with 17 rays, representing the 16 Gilbert Islands and Banaba, which are part of Kiribati. The ocean is shown with three white and blue waves, which stand for the three archipelagoes of the region.
