Description
Our flags of Mauritania are constructed from nylon, a durable and weather-resistant fabric ideal for outdoor flying. Nylon also dries quickly, which helps prevent mildew growth after rain. The design is digitally printed for precise details and bold, UV-resistant colors.
This flag has a sturdy canvas heading and brass grommets for secure attachment to an outdoor flagpole. If you plan to hang your Mauritanian flag against a wall or fence, we recommend adding grommets to the fly corners.

Mauritania Flag Meaning & History
The first national flag of Mauritania was adopted in 1959, a year before the country declared independence from France. This flag had an almost identical design to the modern version but without the red stripes. The red was added on August 15, 2017, following a referendum.
The colors red, green, and yellow are commonly considered Pan-African, though each has an individual meaning on the flag as well. Red is the bloodshed by Mauritanians in defense of their country, green is a traditional color of Islam, and yellow represents the Sahara desert. The yellow crescent and star are symbols of Islam, which is Mauritania’s state religion.
