Pakistan Flag Meaning & History

Pakistan’s flag is based on the flag of the political party All-India Muslim League, which was created in 1937. This flag had largely the same design but without the white stripe on the left and the crescent and star in the center. The national flag with the updated design was adopted on August 11, 1947, shortly before gaining independence from the British Empire.

Green is a traditional color of Islam, the majority religion of Pakistan. The white stripe on the left represents the other religious groups present in the country. The star and crescent are also Islamic icons, with the crescent standing for progress and the star for knowledge.
