Utah Flag Meaning & History
On March 21, 2023, Utah Governor Spencer Cox signed into law that Utah’s flag would change on March 9, 2024. The new design results from a state-sponsored competition that encouraged public submissions.
The updated state flag of Utah retains the familiar beehive symbol of Utahns' work ethic, with the addition of a five-pointed star to represent statehood. The colors and shapes in the background mimic Utah’s natural landscapes, depicting white mountains below a blue sky and red, rocky ground underneath.
