Indonesia Flag Meaning & History
Indonesia’s red-and-white colors have their historical roots in the Majapahit Empire, which existed from the 13th to 16th centuries. Red and white were the royal colors of that dynasty and returned to popular use in the early 20th century as a symbol of Indonesian nationalism while the country was under Dutch rule. The modern flag was officially adopted on August 17, 1945, when Indonesia declared its independence. The color red is commonly associated with courage, while the white represents purity.
Monaco vs Indonesia Flag
The flags of Monaco and Indonesia can be easy to confuse because both use a very similar design, with two horizontal stripes of red and white. The main differences are that the shade of red on Monaco’s flag is slightly darker, and that each flag traditionally uses a different aspect ratio: 2:3 for the Indonesian flag and 4:5 for Monaco’s.
