Netherlands Antilles Flag Meaning & History

The flag of the Antilles was adopted on November 19, 1959, and was based on the Netherlands’ national flag. The flag initially had six white stars, representing the islands of Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten. Aruba left the union and became independent in 1986, which resulted in the removal of a star. The remaining members split in 2010.
