The iconic ship and lion design is digitally printed for high precision and detail. The colors are added using UV-resistant inks, creating bright, vibrant colors that resist fading, even when flown in direct sunlight.

New Brunswick Flag Meaning & History

After Canada adopted the maple leaf flag in 1965, the government of New Brunswick decided to create a regional flag. The task was given to Robert Pichette, who was the administrative assistant to the Premier of New Brunswick at the time. Pichette based his design on the region’s coat of arms, and the flag was officially adopted in March 1965.

The gold lion at the top of the flag refers to both the Royal Arms of England and the coat of arms for the German principality of Brunswick-Lüneburg. The ship shown below is a lymphad, a symbol typically used in Scottish heraldry. Shipbuilding was New Brunswick’s primary industry when the original coat of arms was granted in 1868.
