Description

Our Qatar flags are manufactured in the USA using nylon, a lightweight fabric that flies regally, even in gentle breezes. Nylon is also a quick-drying material due to its lightness, which helps prevent mildew growth after rain and humidity. The white and red design is digitally printed for precision and bold, fade-resistant colors.

Each flag is equipped with a durable canvas header and brass grommets for simple attachment to any of our outdoor flagpoles. We offer the Qatari flag in sizes 2’ x 3’, 3’ x 5’, 4’ x 6’, 5’ x 8’, and 6’ x 10’. Refer to our table of common flagpole heights and their proportional flag size if you aren’t sure which option to choose.

Qatar Flag Meaning & History

Qatar’s flag was originally a plain red field, used from the late 18th century to the 19th century. A white serrated line was then added to the flag at the request of the British, who had also asked other nations in the area to do so in order to symbolize the signing of anti-piracy treaties.

In 1932, maroon diamonds were added to the white field, and in 1936, the country’s name was written in Arabic on the red field. Both of these changes were reversed in 1949. The maroon color was legally standardized on July 9, 1971, creating the modern design.

The maroon color used on the flag is due to Qatar’s historical production of red and purple dyes using shellfish. The nine serrated edges separating the fields represent the country’s entry into the Trucial States, regions that had signed treaties with the British Empire.

Qatar Flag vs Bahrain Flag

While the flags of Qatar and Bahrain are very similar, there are a few differences. The Bahrain flag uses a much lighter red color and only has five serrated edges instead of Qatar’s nine. Additionally, the Bahrain flag uses a 3:5 ratio, while Qatar uses 11:28, the most extended flag of any nation.
