Trinidad and Tobago’s national flag was adopted on August 31, 1962, to celebrate its independence from the British Empire. The design was created by Carlisle Chang.
The red background represents fire, courage, and the sun, the black stripe symbolizes earth and dedication, and the white outlines stand for purity, equality, and water.
