British Virgin Islands Red Flag Meaning & History

The red ensign of the British Virgin Islands, designated in 2001, is a civil flag meant to be flown by ships registered in the country or visiting the region. Its design is based on the British Red Ensign, which is the United Kingdom’s civil flag as well.

The civil flag shares the same coat of arms as the national flag, depicting Saint Ursula on a green shield. She is surrounded by eleven oil lamps, which represent her followers.
