Description

Our Somali flags are constructed using nylon, a tough and weather-resistant material built for outdoor flying. Nylon is a lightweight fabric and will dry quickly after contact with water, helping prevent mildew growth. The light blue background and white star are digitally printed for precision and vivid, fade-resistant colors.

These flags have a sturdy canvas heading and brass grommets for reliable flying from any standard outdoor flagpole. We offer the Somalia flag in the sizes 2’ x 3’, 3’ x 5’, 4’ x 6’, 5’ x 8’, and 6’ x 10’. For assistance, refer to our table of common pole heights and their matching flag size.

Somalia Flag Meaning & History

In the 1950s, Somalia was part of the UN Trust Territory of Somaliland. In 1954, there was a debate on what national flag to use for the region, with many suggestions being the flags of local political parties. Somali scholar Mohammed Awale Liban designed the current flag, which was adopted on October 12, 1954.

The five-pointed ‘star of unity’ in the center originally represented the five major areas where the Somali people lived: Djibouti, Somaliland, part of Ethiopia, part of Kenya, and Somalia. The blue color symbolizes the surrounding seas and refers to the flag of the United Nations.
