Our Department of Defense flag is manufactured from durable, weather-resistant nylon fabric for outdoor flying. The nylon used in our flags is lightweight, allowing it to fly easily in mild winds and dry quickly after becoming wet, helping prevent mildew growth. The DOD seal is added using advanced digital printing technology for intricate details and vibrant, fade-resistant colors.
Each DOD flag comes equipped with a sturdy canvas heading and two brass grommets for simple attachment to any standard outdoor flagpole. This flag is available in the sizes 3’ by 5’ and 4’ by 6’. If you’re unsure which size best suits your setup, refer to our table of common flagpole heights and their corresponding flag sizes.

Department of Defense Flag Meaning & History
The DOD flag uses the agency’s seal, which Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson officially adopted on August 22, 1949.
The seal contains a bald eagle with its wings outstretched and an American flag shield on its chest. In the eagle’s talons are three arrows, which symbolize the first three branches of the US Armed Forces: the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Above the eagle are 13 gold stars, which reference the original 13 colonies of the US.
