OAS Flag Meaning & History
The Organization of American States was founded in 1948, though a design for a flag would not be created until 1961. A proposal was sent to Annin Flagmakers for development, and the first iteration of the flag was formally adopted in 1965.
The seal in the center contains the national flags of all OAS member countries. The flag’s design has been updated a few times since its creation due to countries joining or leaving the organization. The flags are ordered alphabetically according to the countries’ Spanish names, clockwise from the lower left.
